Herd Psychology

In case many people do any action together, the other may have tendency to do that action as well this is called herd psychology.

Human is social. That’s why the human beings are normally affected by the environment. For example; a research has been done by Asch in 1955 to see the impact of the group on people. Asch created a group to make this experiment. The people of the group except the test subject had information about the experiment. It is only the subject of the test who didn’t know about the experiment. Asch wanted the people to answer the questions wrongly. Asch wanted them to match the two straight lines in the cards he showed. There was a solid line in A card, and three different lines in B which could be matched with A. The people of the groups all gave the wrong answer. The subject gave the correct answer. The test subject felt disturbed in this event and he adapted the group and gave the wrong answer. We accept the true answers as true which the majority chooses without thinking even though we actually know that they are false.

Some of the reasons are: the fear of exclusion in the group, loyalty to the group, thinking that the behavior being right, the wish of the hits in the group.

Most of these decisions are wrong. We should be informed to not be in the herd psychology. Through the knowledge we can be open be to the query trusting ourselves. It provides the more accurate decisions. Nietzsche said that people should dedicate themselves to this world. And thanks to this Nietzsche mentioned that the people who go with the others would help the clever people to be recognized. It has been thought that the herd psychology will help the intelligent ones to find the new way while the majority follows the certain ways.
